The Syracuse Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (SGMWA), under the direction of Dr. Joan R. Hillsman, will present a concert of inspired African music and Negro spirituals to honor and celebrate the life of Harriet Tubman. Co-sponsored by the Harriet Tubman Boosters Club, this event will feature music composed and directed by Dr. Hillsman, and performed by members of the Syracuse Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Their presentation will follow a narrative timeline of Harriet Tubman’s life from slavery in the south to freedom in the north. Tickets $10.   Uncategorized Uncategorized |

The competition kicks off at 8:00 PM, doors will open at 7:00 PM with refreshments available. $5 gets you in to enjoy the show. First 20 Couples to register will compete. $20 entry fee. The tangy Norwegian comedy ’Happy, Happy’ is a romantic lark about optimism and infidelity that begins each of its many-chaptered stories with four Norwegian guys outfitted in what look like a series of bad wedding suits and singing gospel tunes. The gospel singers’ performances are so zesty and the lyrics do sort of set the stage for what will happen next, that you’re kind of happy, happy every time they show up. Lucy harmonized on Colvin’s Grammy-winning Steady On, Nanci Griffith’s Lone Star State of Mind and Little Love Affairs, and four of John Gorka’s albums. She also landed soundtrack credits, singing with Vega on Pretty in Pink and with Griffith on The Firm, and several commercial credits, including ’The Heartbeat of America’ for Chevrolet.
