An opportunity for the public to learn about a captivating moment in local Auburn history, the trial of William Freeman. Freeman was an African American who murdered four members of the local Van Nest family. The incident sparked feelings of animosity and reprisal, and took on a more controversial note when William Seward offered to defend Freeman despite the public outcry.
